Workshop: Dealing with Dementia / Lidiando con la Demencia
Date & Time: Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 AM
Location: Silver Creek Family Church
5326 176th St SW, Lynnwood, WA
Why this matters:
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Latinos in the U.S. are 1.5 times more likely to develop dementia compared to the white population. Additionally, 85% of Hispanics believe it’s important to receive information about dementia from people who understand their culture and ethnicity.
Being a caregiver for someone with dementia requires patience and creativity. This 4-hour workshop will provide:
- Basic information about dementia
- Strategies to help keep loved ones safe, healthy, and engaged at home
- Tools to manage behaviors associated with dementia
Why now?
This workshop will be delivered in English but is aimed at identifying bilingual individuals interested in becoming certified to lead this workshop in Spanish in the future. Certification includes financial support for facilitators.
Who should attend?
Bilingual individuals—whether or not they are currently caregivers—who want to bring this vital information to our community. Certification training takes two business days, and facilitators are asked to commit to leading a minimum number of workshops per year.
