Verdant Health Commission Announces Interim Superintendent

Lynnwood, Washington – At the August 27th, 2025 regularly scheduled monthly board meeting, commissioners thanked outgoing Superintendent Dr. Lisa Edwards for 5 years of dedicated service and appointed Sarah Zabel as the interim superintendent.

Ms. Zabel, an independent consultant since 2021, served as the Chief Operating Officer of Swedish Edmonds from 2016-2020. She has worked at the current Swedish Edmonds campus since 2004, before the lease with Providence was signed, and it was known as Stevens Hospital.

The search for the next superintendent will launch with the support of a search firm to be selected in early September at a public meeting.

During Superintendent Edwards’ tenure, Verdant invested more than $44 million into local nonprofits providing healthcare programs and services, completed a $9 million remodel of the Langer Medical Building, and launched its annual Community Health Networking event. Superintendent Edwards also spearheaded Verdant’s responses to the Covid and opioid epidemics in South Snohomish County.

“We thank Lisa for all that she has done to advance the work of Verdant and to grow our impact in the community,” said Karianna Wilson, Board President.
